The Calalta Synchronized Skating Club is proud to be hosting the 2005 Western Regional Festival
of Synchronized Skating from February 4-6, 2005 in Calgary at the Stampede Corral.
This event will bring approximately 1000 synchronized skaters to Calgary from British Columbia,
Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The top 6 Western teams in the Novice, Junior, Open, and Adult divisions
will qualify to attend the National Synchronized Skating Championships in Sarnia, Ontario from February 24-27.
Hosting Westerns is a wonderful opportunity for both the Calalta Synchro Club and the City of Calgary.
Attendance is expected to reach approxmiately 3000, while over 330 hotel rooms will be booked. To make
this large event a success, we need your help! Follow the links at the right to
see how you can contribute as a sponsor or volunteer.
Synchronized skating began in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the early 1950s when Dr. Richard Porter created drill-team-like group skating
routines as entertainment for hockey game intermissions. Today, the sport has evolved to a level where
the world's best teams are made up of elite athletes who are exceptionally skilled in all areas of figure skating.
The first official World Championship for synchronized skating was held in 2000, and members of the synchro
community are eagerly anticipating the day when the sport will be accepted into the Winter Olympics.

skating and the Calalta Synchronized Skating Club.
