Coaches

Kim Boorman - Mirage Junior

Kim In 2005-2006, after a brief hiatus from a coaching career that spans thirteen years and has earned her wide respect in both the National and International synchro communities, Calalta welcomed back former Ice Symphony coach Kim Boorman as head coach for Mirage (formerly Ice Rhapsody). Kim is particularly respected for her original and creative choreography, and 2005-2006 was no exception as Ice Rhapsody received great reviews for their Phantom of the Opera program. As a coach, choreographer, trainer, show producer, NCCP Level III course conductor, and Alberta Section mentor coach, Kim has received many accolades:

  • 2005-2006 - Calalta Synchro, Calgary - Coached Ice Rhapsody to a 4th place finish out of 17 teams at the Western Canadian Championships, a personal best for the team, earning them a berth to Nationals.

  • 2000-2002 – Seattle Skating Club, USA – Coached the Adult team to two National bronze medals. Her Novice and Junior teams qualified for Nationals for the first time in their history.

  • 1998-2000 – Calalta Synchro, Calgary – Led Ice Symphony to be one of the top Adult Competitive teams in Alberta and Western Canada, and achieved their highest National ranking at the Competitive level.

  • 1990-1998 – Edmonton Synchronized Skating Club, Edmonton – Coached the Novice, Junior, and Senior teams to multiple Provincial and Western Canadian titles. Coached the Senior team, Ice Elite, to National Team status in 1996, a first for any Western Canadian team. Led Ice Elite to 3rd and 5th place finishes at ISU competitions in Italy and France, respectively.

  • Has choreographed opening and closing ceremonies for the 1996 World Figure Skating Championships and 1994 Canadian Figure Skating Championships (both in Edmonton). Ice Elite was invited to perform at the Worlds gala in 1996.

  • Was Assistant Choreographer for the Sodial Ice Show in Vancouver, 1994, and both Choreographer and Producer for Christmas Ice Shows at West Edmonton Mall in 1993 and 1994.

  • Also coached recreational and competitive Juvenile, Novice, and Junior teams in Camrose, AB, to consistent top placements in their respective categories.

Under Kim's guidance and leadership, the junior team underwent an amazing transformation in 2005-2006. The wealth of knowledge and experience she brings to the sport is a great asset to our organization, and Mirage can't wait to see what she has in store for 2006-2007.
